Time: 07:00 (TBC)
Approximate duration: 12 hours
Meeting point: Congress Centre, entrance 10
Maximum capacity: 47 participants

Visit the city that provided uranium ore to Marie Curie-Sklodowska for her research! In the ore, she discovered the element radium. Visit a uranium mine with us and experience an authentic underground feeling! Nowadays, Jáchymov is a unique spa town thanks to the radon-rich spring of František Běhounek that emerges in the oldest operating mine in Europe. This radioactive water is used for therapeutic baths. Unfortunately, uranium used by the Nazis and later by the Soviets for the development of nuclear weapons also originated in Jáchymov. In the 1940s and 1950s, many slave labour camps were built here, where war & political prisoners had to extract uranium ore in utterly inhuman conditions. Join us on an 8-kilometre hike to the places where these camps once stood!

Our guide will be the association Political Prisoners.eu, and along the way, you will learn a lot of information about the tragic fate of the unfortunate prisoners. There are few places in the world where the tumultuous history of the twentieth century has left such a deep mark as in Jáchymov valley…
Given the rich programme, this trip will start early in the morning (e.g. at 7 a.m.), and the expected return is in the evening. Only people able to do an 8-kilometre-long hike in the woods can participate.

Price per person: 2 000 CZK (approx. 80 EUR)
Includes coach transfer from the Prague Congress Centre to Jáchymov and back to the Prague Congress Centre, English-speaking guide, entrance fee to uranium ore mines, and lunch box.
